:: ARTAUD

2/5/03

April 16th.

How do you base a poetics on the valorization of a total extinction? AHHHHH.

side note: Mark Strand seems to have found a way. It’s about an absent presence. Strand does it in terms of time. But Artaud doesn’t think ‘time’ exactly. He thinks of extinction in terms of force and non-force. The void, maybe, is the space between the judge and the judged. (Artaud seems to hold both places at the same time). Is it a question of poetry and poetics: depend upon and destroy one another.

nothingness vs. inspiration: Inspiration suggests that the poetic is outside (a muse, an exteriority, yadda yadda yadda).

Negative Theology: During the rationalization of Christianity, talking about God implies a kind of infinite, God is un-predicated. It is impossible to talk about him.

The void is a function of pain… Hmmm. I don’t think so. Artaud’s void is much more interesting if you don’t look at into his psycho-pathology (i.e. pain).

Derrida’s Writing and Difference Two articles about Artaud: Derrida says that God is a parasite of the unconscious…

Theater and its Double: tension between a-formal and formal theater. His theater productions always fail…

Judgment is one of the keys to Artaud’s pathological condition. Goooooood this is boring. There are nine window in this room.

The different that separates me from myself… if there wasn’t a pathology involved you could [step out of yourself], but here that statement has a larger significance. Shit man, pathology is always involved.
