Ok. So we finally got over how clever we were and said something worthwhile.
Well, actually WE didn’t say anything, Yiddyalbe said it. She
described, more or less articulately, virtual desire. As a lesbian who
enjoyed cyber-sex with men, she aptly performs (a vulgar version of)
nomadic desire. Yiddyalbe undermined and reasserted her identity simultaneously.
Repressed fantasy? Maybe. A straight girl in disguise? Never a possibility.
Here, the virtual body is transgressive and resistant. It’s a
network of chaotic desires that don’t properly root themselves,
but don’t self-destruct either. These desires play themselves
out as a Nietzschean yes, a positivity, a virtuality.
(Oh god, did I just write that? Ok. I don’t really know what I’m
talking about… I just get so carried away when we get it right—it
almost never happens).
