11/07: First meeting (Greenwich village)

It’s always fun to say “Epithelium began in a grungy little
coffee shop in Greenwich village.” Yeah. We were real
artists, Al and I… But it began in a Brooklyn bar, one week before
the first meeting. Al and I downed a couple lagers, discussing
the freaks on the Internet.
Online communities: breeding grounds for the socially inept, freakish,
and alienated. We both liked websites. That’s how this whole thing
started…
So we constructed the premise of the project at our first meeting.
We wanted to perform a website. Online users would tell their stories.
We would perform what they said. From the first meeting, the project's
construction was rigorous. We would create a website, then strictly
perform what was on the website. Nothing else. Every single word of
the show was lifted from www.epithelium.org. That was the plan. Seems
simple enough, right? HAH.
